Tamil filmmaker Bharathiraja was rushed to a hospital in Chennai after complaining about breathlessness. He is 84. He is stable now.

According to Cinema Express, the MGM hospital shared an update on his health. The statement from the hospital reads, “Mr Bharathiraja, renowned movie director, is presently admitted at MGM HEALTHCARE, Aminjikkarai, following complaints of breathlessness.”

The statement continued, “He is receiving appropriate medical care in the intensive care unit. His clinical condition is stable, and he continues to be under close monitoring by our team of medical experts. With appropriate supports, his vital parameters remain within normal limits. He is responding satisfactorily to the ongoing treatment. Further updates will be communicated as and when deemed necessary."

According to earlier reports, Bharathiraja was sent to a private hospital on December 27 after becoming ill. He allegedly experienced wheezing and other respiratory problems.

Who is Bharathiraja?

Bharathiraja is a well-known Tamil cinema director, producer, screenwriter, and actor. Kizhake Pogum Rail, Sigappu Rojakkal, Alaigal Oivathillai, Kaadhal Oviyam, and Mudhal Mariyathai are just a few of the films he has made since making his debut in 1977 with 16 Vayathinile. He received numerous honors for his work, including six National Film Awards, four Filmfare Awards South, six Tamil Nadu State Film Awards, and a Nandi Award.

In 2004, he received the Padma Shri award in recognition of his contributions to the cinema industry.

Filmmaker Bharathiraja suffered a terrible loss last year when his 48-year-old son Manoj died. He had a heart attack and died. Images of Manoj's death and last ceremonies went viral because they depicted a clearly broken Bharathiraja. He reportedly found it difficult to accept his son's passing. A number of celebs were spotted comforting Bharathiraja during the final ceremonies.
