Veteran actress Tulasi announces retirement after 60 years: "I will continue my journey in peace"

Veteran actress Tulasi has officially announced her retirement from acting after nearly 60 years in cinema, sharing a series of spiritual posts on Instagram. Linking her decision to personal growth and devotion to Sai Baba, she thanked everyone who shaped her journey.

Veteran South Indian actress Tulasi shocked fans by announcing her decision to retire from acting in a string of spiritual Instagram posts. The announcement marks the conclusion of an amazing career that started almost 60 years ago and saw her rise to stardom from a child performer to a well-known and adored character in Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada films.

The veteran actress hinted at her retirement from acting in a post with a spiritual theme that included a picture of Sai Baba's feet. She accompanied her post with the caption, “Guard and guide me and my son Sai!! Oh deva oh Sainadha."

However, Tulasi continued her posts with an introspective message and added in another post, "Trust your intuition. You don’t need to explain or justify your feelings to anyone, just trust your own inner guidance; it knows best."

In a later post, Tulasi finally announced her intention to retire, linking the choice to her spiritual development.

She penned, "In continuation of my Shirdi darshan this December 31. I wish myself a happy retirement will continue my journey in peace with SAINADHA thanking all for helping me learn life SAIRAM."

About Tulasi’s career

Tulasi's cinematic journey started with the 1967 Telugu film Bharya. K Balachander's 1973 film Arangetram marked the start of her official career as a child artist.

She later starred in some of the most well-known movies of the time, such as Seetamalakshmi (1978), the classic Sankarabharanam (1979), and Mudda Mandaram (1981).

Later in her career, Tulasi established herself as a mainstay in supporting parts, regularly appearing on screen alongside industry titans Vijay Sethupathi, Rajinikanth, Mohanlal, Chiranjeevi, and Kamal Haasan. Mr. Perfect, Srimanthudu, Mahanati, which won a National Award, and Dear Comrade are some of her recent noteworthy films.
