Kantara: Chapter 1 becomes 11th south Indian dubbed film to cross Rs 100 Crore mark in Hindi

Rishab Shetty’s Kantara: Chapter 1 has entered the Rs 100 crore club in Hindi, becoming the 11th South Indian dubbed film to achieve the feat. Following a slow start, strong word-of-mouth turned it into a box office sensation, echoing the journey that began with Baahubali in 2015.

Kantara: Chapter 1 becomes highest earning 11th Hindi dubbed fiilm

Rishab Shetty’s Kantara: Chapter 1 has officially stormed into the Rs 100 crore club at the Hindi box office — becoming only the 11th South Indian dubbed film to do so.

Its story struck a deep chord with viewers, and what began as a quiet release quickly became a word-of-mouth sensation.

Following a sluggish start, the movie gained momentum over the weekend, continued to do well during the week, and crossed the Rs 100 crore milestone in just eight days. In its second weekend, it is now aiming for a healthy jump.

The journey of South Indian films in the Hindi market has been fascinating. It all began with S. S. Rajamouli’s Baahubali: The Beginning in 2015 — the film that started it all. Starring Prabhas and Rana Daggubati, it collected around Rs 119.25 crore during its run, a huge feat at the time, especially since it was competing with Salman Khan’s Bajrangi Bhaijaan from its second weekend onwards.

That success quietly reshaped how Hindi-speaking audiences looked at South Indian cinema.

Since then, the Rs 100 crore club has grown steadily, with Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, 2.0, Saaho, Pushpa: The Rise, RRR, KGF: Chapter 2, Salaar, Kalki 2898 AD, Pushpa 2: The Rule, and now Kantara: Chapter 1 joining the ranks.

Interestingly, five of these eleven blockbusters star Prabhas, who has clearly become a powerhouse in the Hindi market.

Among them all, Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2: The Rule reigns supreme with a phenomenal Rs 739.50 crore in net collections — a number that truly reflects how far South Indian cinema has come.

In the last decade, these films have broken language barriers, redefined storytelling, and found a loyal fan base across India. What was once “regional cinema” is now commanding nationwide excitement and box-office dominance.

Looking ahead, the buzz is already building around Prabhas’ next big release, The Raja Saab, which is set to arrive during the Sankranthi 2026 weekend. If the film clicks with audiences, it could easily continue his golden streak and add yet another title to the growing list of South Indian hits that have captured hearts.
