Filmmaker S.S. Rajamouli returned to the big screen with Baahubali: The Epic, starring Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Anushka Shetty, and Tamannaah Bhatia, which released in cinemas on October 31.
The film opened to much excitement and a promising weekend, but as the first Monday rolled in, it saw a sharp drop in box office numbers — a familiar challenge even for big releases.
According to a trade portal, Baahubali: The Epic earned an estimated Rs 1.35 crore net in India on Monday, taking its total domestic earnings to around Rs 25.7 crore.
The film got off to a solid start with ₹1.15 crore from Thursday previews and a strong ₹9.65 crore opening on Friday. It continued its good run through the weekend, collecting Rs 7.25 crore on Saturday and Rs 6.3 crore on Sunday.
In comparison, Thamma, currently in its second Monday, managed to earn around Rs 1.50 crore, showing that both films are running neck and neck at the moment. With this, Baahubali: The Epic has brought in roughly Rs 26 crore across all Indian languages so far.
Globally, the film’s weekend figures stand at a respectable Rs 39.75 crore, which suggests there’s still steady interest beyond domestic markets. While such dips are normal after a strong weekend, all eyes are on whether the film can hold its ground through the coming days.
The comparison with its predecessors, however, is inevitable — Baahubali: The Beginning (2015) made a monumental Rs 650 crore worldwide, and Baahubali 2: The Conclusion (2017) raised the bar even higher, raking in a record-breaking Rs 1,788.06 crore.
Expectations were sky-high for Baahubali: The Epic, not just because of Rajamouli’s brand of cinematic grandeur but also because it teases a larger universe.
The film concludes by hinting at a new animated project, Baahubali: The Eternal War, which is said to be made on an impressive Rs 120 crore budget — further expanding the legacy of this epic saga.
