Actor and politician Vijay has finally broken his silence just hours after a "stampede-like" incident that occurred during his large rally in Karur, Tamil Nadu. He has responded to the tragedy that reportedly took the lives of 36 people.

Vijay, who is the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief, took to his X (formerly Twitter) handle and wrote, “My heart is shattered; I am writhing in unbearable, indescribable pain and sorrow that words cannot express.”

He wrote, “I extend my deepest condolences and sympathies to the families of my fellow brothers and sisters who lost their lives in Karur. I also pray for the speedy recovery of those receiving treatment in the hospital.”

According to PTI, the stampede at TVK leader and actor Vijay's public rally in Karur, Tamil Nadu, on Saturday night claimed the lives of at least 36 people.

The stampede started at around 7.30 p.m. on Saturday. Vijay’s supporters had flocked in large numbers in the afternoon and had been waiting for hours to see the TVK leader, who is also a well-known movie star.

Tamil Nadu DGP G Venkataraman has told PTI that the crowd swelled due to the delayed arrival of the actor-politician to the venue, and they lacked sufficient food and water during the waiting hours under the hot sun.

Vijay was accorded a welcome at one point, and a big crowd followed him, and he was ushered in safely to the venue by the police. While the organisers put the expected number at 10,000, about 27,000 people turned up to have a glimpse of the actor, Venkataraman said. He indicated police protection was given, anticipating about 20,000.
