Veteran actor Raveena Tandon is gearing up for her return to Tamil cinema after a remarkable 24-year gap with the upcoming film Lawyer, co-starring Vijay Antony.

The actor, who has previously appeared in major South Indian projects like Sadhu (1994), Aalavandhan (2001), and KGF: Chapter 2 (2022), expressed both excitement and nerves about returning to Tamil cinema.

“I’m excited and nervous because I know I have to brush up on my Tamil all over again,” she told HT City.

In a candid interview, Raveena reflected on her long-standing relationship with South Indian cinema, which began in 1992. She revealed that it was the storytelling that initially drew her in. “I have always worked in the South industry… because I found their films intriguing,” she said, adding that her admiration for these films has remained consistent over the decades. “The stories are deeply rooted in their culture and heritage. They are not trying to serve the West. That’s why so many of their films are hits.”

Raveena believes that the South film industry’s success lies in its connection with grassroots audiences. “Their films are rooted at the ground level, which is very important to create a mass connection,” she said. She added that South filmmakers “have a ratio of probably more hits because they cater to what their masses want, and they can identify it.”

At 52, Raveena continues to stay relevant in an ever-evolving industry. Speaking about adapting with time, she noted, “There’s nothing that doesn’t evolve. You need to evolve first. The choices we make define who we are.”

With her return to Tamil cinema, Raveena not only celebrates a personal milestone but also reaffirms the power of culturally grounded storytelling—a hallmark of South Indian cinema that continues to resonate deeply with audiences across India.
