Rajinikanth, the legendary superstar of Indian cinema, continues to captivate audiences with his commanding presence even at the age of 74. However, recent reports suggest that in his upcoming action-packed film Coolie, the actor may have opted for a body double to perform a substantial portion of the film’s physically demanding action sequences.
According to a report by 123Telugu, Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, marks a notable shift in Rajinikanth's filming style. It is allegedly the first project in which the superstar extensively used a body double to tackle complex stunts. Initially, Rajinikanth had allocated 70 days for shooting, but sources claim that a body double stepped in for around 45 days — mostly during high-octane action sequences that required significant physical effort.
While the news has sparked curiosity among fans and the media alike, there has been no official confirmation from the film’s production team or Rajinikanth’s representatives. Given the star’s age, the decision — if true — seems to be a practical move to ensure the film’s action remains impactful without compromising safety.
Interestingly, this isn’t the first time such reports have emerged. During the filming of Enthiran (2010), it was rumoured that late actor Manoj Bharathiraja served as a body double for Rajinikanth in some key scenes. Though these moments have never been officially acknowledged, fans are well aware that body doubles are often used across the film industry for challenging stunts.
Coolie is already one of the most anticipated Tamil releases of the year, slated to hit theaters on August 14. The film boasts an ensemble cast including Nagarjuna Akkineni, Upendra Rao, Sathyaraj, and Shruti Haasan, further heightening excitement among moviegoers.
In addition to Coolie, Rajinikanth is also busy with Jailer 2, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar. The star has been spotted filming in various locations across South India for the sequel to his 2023 hit.
