R Madhavan, who is gearing up for his upcoming film Test, set to release on April 4, recently opened up about his reasons of taking a sabbatical from films for four long years.
In an interview with India TV, Madhavan shared that he took a break from acting because he felt disillusioned with the kind of roles he was being offered.
He recalled a particular experience where he was shooting a Tamil song in Switzerland, wearing orange pants and a green shirt, and gyrating to the music, which left him dissatisfied.
"I was in the middle of the road, and I saw this Swiss farmer looking at us with complete disdain and shaking his head. I looked at him and said, ‘You come to Chennai, I’ll show you who I am’. I was really offended, but it struck me suddenly that I am literally dancing to other people’s tunes," the Shaitaan actor stated.
He also mentioned that his wife had once told him that he was working in a way that suggested he wanted to distance himself from it. Agreeing with her, he chose to take a break. During this period, he reflected on the country's future and the things that resonated with people.
He paused his acting career and declined ad films, opting instead to grow a beard and travel across India. Through his travels, he observed the lives of ordinary people, including rickshaw drivers, and believes that the lessons he learned during those four years are now shaping his current work.'
Meanwhile, Madhavan has several projects lined up including Kesari Chapter 2, Dhurandhar and De De Pyaar De 2.
