The craze of Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2 was unstoppable making it a blockbuster hit. The film grossed Rs 1213 crore in India and Rs 1871 crore worldwide cementing its place as a cult classic and a fan-favourite phenomenon.
Additionally, Allu’s look in saree made the film even more iconic. The actor, who won a national award for his portrayal of Pushpa Raj in the first instalment, has recently shared that he was initially unsure about wearing a saree.
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Allu Arjun shared behind-the-scenes of the infamous Jathara scene from his film and confessed about being ‘scared’ of wearing a saree. He insisted that it was a challenge to look macho in a saree but appreciated his director, Sukumar, for his help in the portrayal.
He said, "Well, one thing about the Jathara sequence is that, in short, when he initially told me, I was scared. Yeah, that was the first reaction. We had finished a very macho photo shoot, and he said, 'It's not working'. Then he said, 'I want you to wear a saree, dress like a lady.’”
Allu Arjun revealed, "We started doing sketches. And then we could see it. And I started buying into the idea because there’s always a fear in the beginning. First, there was fear, and then there was exploration.”
Arjun shared that after the launch of the poster with Allu wearing a saree, they knew that it could become their USP. He knew that it was a challenging job for him as an actor adding, “If I do this, I will walk away with a huge, how do I say, with a great name. Only one thing that Sukumar Garu (sir) and I thought was that even if he's dressed in a sari, he has to look very, very macho, the alpha-ness should not be lost.”
However, he insisted that despite the fear he knew that wearing a saree would not make him less macho. He said, “Alpha-ness is in the mind. You can't take the alpha-ness away. That's an inherited trait.”
Pushpa 2 was directed by Sukumar and produced by Mythri Movie Makers. The film also stars Rashmika Mandanna, Fahadh Faasil, Jagapathi Babu, Sunil, and Rao Ramesh.
Allu Arjun is yet to officially announce his new projects but is speculated to star alongside Janhvi Kapoor in Atlee's next project.
