Punjab flood crisis: Vicky Kaushal, Kapil Sharma and Kareena Kapoor lead calls for aid

The devastating floods in Punjab have shaken the nation, claiming close to 30 lives and leaving thousands homeless in just a week. Torrential rains, the heaviest in decades, have submerged over 1,300 villages across the state, displacing families, destroying livestock, and wiping out crops. Districts like Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Fazilka, Kapurthala, Tarn Taran, Ferozepur, Hoshiarpur, and Amritsar are among the worst affected. With rivers like the Sutlej, Ravi, and Beas overflowing, the crisis has escalated, prompting government and relief agencies to launch massive rescue operations. Teams from the NDRF, BSF, Army, and district authorities have already saved nearly 15,000 lives.

In the middle of this tragedy, Bollywood celebrities have stepped forward to amplify relief efforts. Vicky Kaushal expressed his anguish after seeing visuals of the floods, posting prayers for the victims and urging support for volunteers on the ground. He wrote “Rabb Meher Bakshe,” a heartfelt call for God’s mercy. Kareena Kapoor Khan emphasized the importance of channeling donations through trusted sources and encouraged people with means to help in any way possible. She, along with Preity Zinta, Varun Dhawan, and Ananya Panday, shared emergency contacts and relief numbers on social media.

Preity Zinta, deeply moved by the devastation in her home state, called the situation heartbreaking and appealed to citizens to contribute to ongoing rescue and rehabilitation efforts. Kapil Sharma, who hails from Amritsar, admitted his heart ached for his people and reminded everyone that the responsibility of rebuilding belongs to every Indian. “Stay strong,” he urged, adding that collective action would make recovery possible.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also reached out to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, assuring full central assistance. He took stock of the situation immediately after returning from China and directed relief measures. Reports suggest that many villagers, desperate to save their families, used tractors and trolleys as makeshift rescue vehicles when their homes and livestock sheds went underwater.

This disaster, the worst Punjab has seen in recent years, highlights both the fragility of rural life under extreme weather and the resilience of communities who, despite immense loss, are determined to rebuild. With the combined efforts of the government, volunteers, and influential voices from Bollywood, there is hope that relief will reach the most vulnerable swiftly.
