At just a teenager, Owen Cooper has made Emmy history with his performance in Netflix’s acclaimed drama Adolescence.

On Sunday night, he took home the award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or TV Movie, receiving a thunderous round of applause as he stepped on stage at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.

In his heartfelt acceptance speech, Cooper thanked his cast, crew, and most importantly, his parents, before reflecting on his journey.

“Honestly, when I started these drama classes a couple of years ago, I didn’t expect to be in the United States, never mind standing here. But I think tonight proves that if you listen, focus, and step out of your comfort zone, you can achieve anything in life. I was nothing three years ago, and I’m here now. Who cares if you get embarrassed? Anything is possible,” he said, moving the audience with his sincerity.

Cooper’s victory is not just a personal milestone—it’s a historic one. He broke the long-standing record held by Michael A. Goorjian, who was 23 when he became the youngest winner in the category back in 1994.

According to Deadline, Cooper also surpassed Scott Jacoby’s achievement as the youngest male actor to ever win an Emmy in any acting category. Jacoby had set the bar at 16 when he won in 1973 for The Certain Summer.

The 77th Primetime Emmy Awards were filled with landmark moments like this one. While Cooper etched his name into Emmy history, the night’s biggest sweep came from Seth Rogen’s The Studio, which turned the ceremony into a celebration of comedy by bagging 13 awards and breaking the record for the most wins ever by a comedy series in a single season.

With its flagship series Severance and The Studio leading nominations and wins in numerous categories, Apple TV+ was the evening's dominant force elsewhere. As the night's most nominated series, Severance in particular maintained its impressive awards momentum.
