Actress Priya Marathe, remembered fondly for her role as Varsha in the much-loved series Pavitra Rishta, has passed away at the age of 38. She died beacuse of cancer on Sunday morning (31 August) at her home in Mira Road, Mumbai, after a long and courageous fight against the illness. Despite being under treatment, her health had reportedly deteriorated in recent weeks.
The news has left the television industry and her fans in deep shock. Tributes have poured in across social media, with many colleagues recalling her warmth, talent, and generosity of spirit.
Priya is survived by her husband, Marathi actor Shantanu Moghe.
Her Pavitra Rishta co-star Anurag Sharma shared a particularly moving message on Instagram, reflecting on their bond. He wrote: “This is so unbelievable Heartbreaking news we got today. I have lost a truly beautiful person, brilliant artist and a friend. Thousands of memories spent with you are shuffling through my mind right now, but my hands are shivering. Memories of working together will always be cherished. It was an honour to have shared the screen with Priya Marathe. She was a warm and generous soul whose laughter will never be forgotten. Rest in peace Mere dost Priya Marathe. Rest in peace Om Shanti 🕉”
Born on 23 April 1987 in Mumbai, Priya grew up in the city that would shape both her personal life and professional journey. She began her career with Marathi television, making her debut in Ya Sukhanooya and later gaining attention in Char Divas Sasuche.
Her breakthrough came with Pavitra Rishta, where she played Varsha opposite the late Sushant Singh Rajput and Ankita Lokhande. This role made her a familiar face in households across India and brought her widespread recognition.

Over the years, she showcased remarkable versatility, appearing in Hindi television dramas such as Kasamh Se, Saath Nibhaana Saathiya and Bade Acche Lagte Hain.
