Netflix, in collaboration with the Government of NCT of Delhi, rolled out a special screening of Kurukshetra at the Delhi Secretariat Auditorium on Friday.
Touted as Netflix India’s first animated mythology, the 18-episode series reimagines the Mahabharata for a fresh generation of viewers.
The event was attended by Shri Kapil Mishra, Minister for Art, Culture & Language, GNCT Delhi, along with Smt. Niharika Rai, IAS, MD & CEO of Delhi Tourism.
A fireside chat with writer-director Ujaan Ganguly and Ashish Thapar, CEO of Hitech Animation, followed the screening, shedding light on how the ambitious project came together.
A war retold for today’s audiences
Kurukshetra unfolds the Mahabharata across 18 days of war, each told through the eyes of 18 warriors. Blending anime-style visuals with poetry, music, and mythology, the show has the lyrical imprint of Gulzar at its heart.
It’s a Tipping Point production, directed by Ujaan Ganguly and animated by Hitech Animation. The series is set to premiere on October 10, 2025, exclusively on Netflix.
Leaders weigh in on the cultural impact
Calling the Mahabharata “an integral part of Delhi’s heritage,” Kapil Mishra praised the initiative: “Kurukshetra brings this to life in a way accessible to millions of future generations. I urge creators to continue sharing the hidden stories and sacrifices of our history.”
Niharika Rai echoed the sentiment, adding: “This collaboration shows how Indian culture can be preserved in modern formats. Kurukshetra makes our timeless epics relatable to today’s youth while honoring their legacy.”
Mahima Kaul, Director – Global Affairs, Netflix India, underlined the global reach of the project: “Kurukshetra is about bringing generations together. Subtitled in 34 languages and available with Hindi audio description, it ensures India’s epic travels far beyond borders.”
Netflix’s cultural push
With Kurukshetra, Netflix doubles down on Indian storytelling rooted in culture and history. From landscapes to legends, the platform continues to export India’s narratives to the world stage.
The show drops on October 10 — and expectations are high.
