Oscar-winning actor Gene Hackman was found dead with his wife, Betsy Arakawa, and their dog on Wednesday in their New Mexico home. There were no signs of foul play. Additionally, the duo had no sign of external injuries on their bodies and were tested negative for carbon monoxide.
However, the investigators are now working to determine the cause and date of death, which is believed to have occurred at least a week before the bodies were found.
According to Santa Fe Sheriff Adan Mendoza, Hackman died on February 17. The Sheriff shared, “An initial interrogation was conducted of Mr. Hackman's pacemaker. This revealed that his last event was recorded on February 17, 2025.” He added, “I think that is a very good assumption, that was his last day of life.”
The bodies of Hackman and his wife were found on Wednesday after their caretaker called 911. Emergency responders found the front door open and pills near his wife's body in the bathroom. Hackman's body was found in another room, fully dressed, with sunglasses nearby. Meanwhile, Hackman’s dog was found in the bathroom, and two healthy dogs were also in the house.
