Infamous for orchestrating one of India’s biggest financial scams, fugitive businessman Nirav Modi’s story is set to be adapted for the screen. Pinkvilla has exclusively learned that producer Vikram Malhotra’s Abundantia Entertainment will bring the gripping tale to life as a Netflix Original. The film will be directed by Palash Vaswani, best known for his work on the popular series Gullak.
Palash Vaswani, who directed seasons 2 and 3 of Gullak, will step into a new genre with this ambitious real-life drama. The screenplay will be based on journalist Pavan C. Lall’s book, Flawed: The Rise and Fall of India’s Diamond Mogul Nirav Modi. The film aims to explore Modi’s rise in the diamond industry, his lavish lifestyle, and the massive Rs. 13,000 crore scam that shocked the nation and rocked the Punjab National Bank (PNB).
The makers are currently in talks with top Bollywood A-listers to play the controversial role of Nirav Modi. Though no names have been officially confirmed, sources reveal that a big star is close to signing on for the lead. The casting has sparked excitement, and fans are eager to know who will step into the shoes of one of India’s most talked-about fugitives.
The timing of this announcement is particularly notable, coming shortly after reports about the arrest of Modi’s uncle, Mehul Choksi—another key figure in the PNB fraud case. This development has brought renewed attention to the scam and its far-reaching consequences.
The film is expected to go on floors in the second half of 2025 and is targeting an early 2026 release. Vikram Malhotra, the man behind projects like Chhorii 2, is backing this project under his banner, Abundantia Entertainment.
As the buzz builds, all eyes are now on the official cast announcement. Stay tuned for more updates as the untitled film moves closer to production.
