American rapper Nicki Minaj is facing legal troubles as a former employee has filed a lawsuit against her, alleging assault and emotional distress. The lawsuit, filed by Brandon Garrett, claims that Minaj struck him during an altercation backstage at the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit on April 21. Garrett was reportedly serving as a day-to-day manager for Minaj's Pink Friday 2 tour at the time of the incident.
In a complaint submitted to the Los Angeles Superior Court, Garrett alleged that Minaj, whose real name is Onika Maraj, hit him multiple times during a confrontation following one of her concerts. He accused the Grammy-nominated rapper of intentional infliction of emotional distress, asserting that the incident caused him significant trauma. Garrett is seeking both punitive and general damages for the alleged assault.
Nicki Minaj’s legal team has strongly refuted the allegations. Her attorney, Judd Burstein, dismissed the claims as baseless.

“At this time, no complaint has been served upon Mrs. Petty [Minaj’s husband, Kenneth Petty], and therefore, we are unaware of the specific allegations,” Burstein stated. “However, if the lawsuit is as reported by TMZ, it is completely false and frivolous. We are confident that the matter brought by this ex-assistant will be resolved swiftly in Mrs. Petty’s favour.”
The alleged altercation reportedly occurred behind the scenes of Minaj's Detroit concert. Garrett claims he filed an official police report in Detroit shortly after the incident.
