Bollywood actor Neil Nitin Mukesh recently encountered a troubling situation at a New York airport, where immigration officers detained and questioned him about his nationality.
In an interview with Mashable India, Neil shared that despite presenting his Indian passport, officials refused to believe he was Indian.
Recalling the incident, the Hisaab Barabar actor stated, “When I was doing the film New York, I was detained at the airport there. They refused to believe that I had an Indian passport and that I was Indian. So it became quite big news that I was detained. They didn’t even let me answer or say anything for myself.”
Neil Nitin Mukesh recounted how the situation intensified as immigration officials persistently questioned him without giving him an opportunity to explain. He revealed that he was detained for nearly four hours before finally being allowed to clarify his identity. When asked how he managed to resolve the issue, Neil shared that he simply told them to Google his name.
For those unfamiliar, Neil Nitin Mukesh hails from a prestigious musical lineage. His grandfather, the iconic Mukesh, was one of Indian cinema’s most revered playback singers, while his father, Nitin Mukesh, also carved a notable career in playback singing.

According to him, the officers were visibly embarrassed upon discovering his background and then shifted their questions to his family's legacy, asking about his grandfather and father.
On the work front, Neil Nitin Mukesh is currently starring in the satirical action comedy Hisaab Barabar, now available for streaming on Zee5. The film revolves around a railway ticket checker who stumbles upon irregularities in minor bank transactions, ultimately exposing a web of deep-rooted corruption. Directed by Ashwni Dhir, the movie also features R. Madhavan in a key role, with Kirti Kulhari, Rashami Desai, and Faisal Rashid in supporting roles.
