Actress Neena Gupta recently shared a heartbreaking memory from her past, recounting a time when she and her daughter Masaba were forced to leave her aunt's home with nowhere to go. She opened up about the challenges they faced during that difficult period when Masaba was still a baby and she was a single mother.
In a recent conversation on the Housing.com YouTube channel, Neena Gupta shared how she once booked a three-bedroom flat in a new project by a builder. Having sold her previous home and invested the proceeds into the new property, she found herself financially strained. During this time, she moved in with her aunt and uncle as she didn’t have much money left.
She said, "I shifted to my aunt’s house where I had stayed before. I thought I stay there so much of the time and I just come back to my house to sleep. Since Masaba was little then, my aunt used to help in looking after the baby. But one day, she threw me out in the middle of the night, she kicked me out."
While in the midst of buying a new house, Neena Gupta temporarily stayed with her aunt and uncle. However, she revealed that everything took a sudden turn when her aunt kicked her out one day, leaving her with nowhere to go. “I had no money left. There was this one night where I had nowhere to go with a baby,” Neena stated.
While Neena Gupta was still trying to sort out her living situation, her uncle had a change of heart and allowed her to stay in an unused flat in Juhu that had been vacant for 20 years. The flat was in poor condition, covered in cobwebs and rust. Neena shared that she cleaned the place with her young baby in tow. However, she soon found herself being asked to leave that house as well.

At that point, Neena found herself without a place to stay, so she approached the builder to whom she had already paid money. She explained her difficult situation and asked if it would be possible for him to return her money so she could purchase a ready-to-move-in house. Neena further stated, "I asked him if it was possible to get my money back, I don’t want that house. He gave me money back, didn’t even deduct a penny."
Neena Gupta's personal life attracted significant attention in the 1980s when she was in a relationship with former West Indies cricketer Vivian Richards. Neena later welcomed their daughter, Masaba, in 1989. She raised her as a single mother.
