Bollywood icon Shah Rukh Khan, marking nearly 35 years in the industry, is all set to receive his first-ever National Award for his powerful performance in the 2023 action blockbuster Jawan.
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting announced the news on Friday via their official handle on X (formerly Twitter).
Before becoming one of the most successful actors to make the leap from television to mainstream cinema, Shah Rukh Khan started his career as a theatre actor. He then made an impression on Indian television during its early years.
Before solidifying his reputation as the undisputed King of Romance with the contemporary masterpiece Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, he made his Bollywood debut with Deewana and went on to deliver legendary anti-hero roles in Baazigar and Darr.
Shah Rukh Khan’s illustrious filmography features a wide range of iconic performances in films like Darr, Baazigar, and Dil Se, to timeless blockbusters such as Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Devdas, Veer-Zaara, Kal Ho Naa Ho, Paheli, Swades, Chak De! India, My Name Is Khan, Pathaan, and Jawan, among many others.
In recent years, however, SRK appears to have shifted gears, embracing the action genre with full force, as seen in his blockbuster hits Pathaan and Jawan, signaling a new and dynamic phase in his illustrious career.
Throughout his career, SRK has been honored at prestigious events across the world for his outstanding contribution to cinema. His recent win of the National Film Award for Best Actor adds another prestigious accolade to his remarkable legacy.
On the professional front, he is currently filming for King, which is slated for a theatrical release in 2026.
