The Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF), widely known as one of the most prestigious festivals for non-feature cinema, is all set to return with its 19th edition in this year 2026. The edition has officially opened its submissions, inviting filmmakers all over India and across the world to present their work and projects in the given categories of documentary, short fiction and animation movies.

The Mumbai Film Festival (MIFF) has grown into a celebrated global platform known for meaningful storytelling and creative innovation. It stands out by showcasing films that delve into deep social themes, human experiences, and fresh cinematic viewpoints, drawing together filmmakers, students, critics, and cinema lovers from around the world who believe in cinema’s artistic and social impact.

Organized by the National Film Development Corporation of India (NFDC), MIFF has long supported independent and alternative cinema, championing filmmakers who break away from traditional storytelling. The festival has launched many emerging talents and given internationally acclaimed creators a chance to connect with Indian audiences.

With submissions now open for the 2026 edition, the festival seeks films that push storytelling boundaries. They are particularly interested in thought-provoking documentaries, impactful short fiction, and imaginative animations that explore current social issues, cultural diversity, and new cinematic ideas.

A senior MIFF official shared, “The Mumbai International Film Festival has always been a platform for filmmakers who see cinema as a powerful medium of expression and dialogue. As we prepare for the 19th edition, we remain committed to discovering new voices and sharing stories that resonate across cultures and borders.”

Since its beginning, MIFF has been crucial in nurturing young talent and fostering conversations around documentaries and short films. Beyond screenings, the festival hosts panel discussions, workshops, and interactive sessions where filmmakers, producers, distributors, and scholars come together to exchange ideas.

As preparations for the 2026 festival begin, MIFF aims once again to celebrate cinematic creativity by bringing compelling stories from across the globe to Mumbai’s vibrant cultural scene. Filmmakers are encouraged to submit their work through the festival’s official submission partner and be part of this inspiring cinematic journey.
