Michael B. Jordan is gearing up to begin filming the much-anticipated sequel to "I Am Legend," alongside Will Smith.
In a recent interview with People magazine, where he discussed his collaboration with Propel Fitness Water on the “Propel Your City Project,” the Black Panther actor provided an update on the status of "I Am Legend 2." Jordan confirmed that the sequel is “something that is in the works.”
Will Smith, in a conversation with Entertainment Tonight last month, expressed optimism about the project, stating that the sequel is “looking good.” He revealed that they have “some really solid ideas” and shared his excitement about working with Jordan, whom he described as “the truth.” Smith added, “I think [Michael and I are] going to make it on screen together. That dude is the truth, so I would love to do that.”
Jordan, speaking about Smith, said the Oscar winner is someone he has admired for a long time. “…[So] to be able to work with Will is something I’m really looking forward to. I’m really excited.” Jordan remarked.
The announcement of the sequel to Smith’s 2007 post-apocalyptic film was made in March 2022. The original movie portrayed Smith as scientist Robert Neville, one of the last human survivor in New York City, battling against mutated, bloodthirsty creatures while searching for a cure. The Francis Lawrence directed film, adapted from Richard Matheson’s 1954 novel, was a box office hit, debuting with $77 million domestically and grossing over $585 million worldwide.
The film's theatrical ending depicted Neville's death, but at the Red Sea International Film Festival earlier this year, Smith confirmed that "I Am Legend 2" would follow the alternate ending where his character survives.
While awaiting the final script for "I Am Legend 2," Jordan is set to appear in an upcoming film directed by Ryan Coogler, known for their collaborations on “Fruitvale Station,” “Creed,” and “Black Panther.”
