Social media influencer and former Kannada Bigg Boss contestant Sonu Srinivas Gowda has come forward with allegations of online harassment. Gowda, who has a significant following on various social media platforms, claims she has been targeted by fans of jailed Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa. This harassment reportedly stems from her lack of public support for the actor, who is currently embroiled in a high-profile murder case.
The controversy began when Gowda started receiving vulgar and obscene messages on her Instagram account. She attributes these attacks to fans of Darshan, who are upset with her for not standing by the actor amidst his legal troubles. Darshan Thoogudeepa was arrested in connection with the alleged murder of his fan, Renukaswamy, in Chitradurga. The case has garnered significant media attention, and emotions among the actor’s fanbase are running high.
Gowda addressed the harassment on her YouTube channel, where she detailed the nature of the messages and the relentless online abuse she has been subjected to. She stated, "I have been receiving vulgar messages on Instagram for not supporting Darshan in the Renukaswamy murder case. I urge Darshan's fans to refrain from making obscene comments and to wait for the court's verdict." This public plea highlights the intensity of the harassment and the influencer's distress over the situation.
The arrest of Darshan, along with 17 other individuals, has been a major news story in Karnataka. The actor was detained on June 11, 2024, and has been in custody for nine days. The suspects in the Renukaswamy murder case underwent medical tests at Victoria Hospital, and the police also obtained a hair wig sample from Darshan as part of their investigation.
The Karnataka Police team, investigating the murder, has sought assistance from the Income Tax Department. They discovered a substantial financial element in the crime, with over Rs 70 lakh involved in the execution. This revelation has added another layer of complexity to the already sensational case. The police seized Rs 37.40 lakh in cash from Darshan's residence and an additional Rs 3 lakh from his wife, Vijayalakshmi.
