After several months of delay, Christopher Nolan's 2014 science-fiction masterpiece Interstellar will finally make its much-anticipated re-release in Indian theaters, including in the IMAX format. Although the film was re-released in the US cinemas on December 6, 2024, to celebrate its 10th anniversary, it didn’t receive the full IMAX experience due to the overwhelming presence of Pushpa 2: The Rule, Sukumar’s hit Telugu action thriller.
Now, Indian audiences will have the chance to experience the breathtaking visuals and emotional depth of Interstellar on the big screen once again, with IMAX screenings adding an extra dimension to the viewing experience.
On Friday, Warner Bros India’s official X account posted the re-release poster of Interstellar, accompanied by a caption announcing the return of the iconic film to Indian theaters, “The stars are aligning again! Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar returns to cinemas in India and also in IMAX on February 7. Relive the journey beyond time and space!"
It also added the hashtags – Interstellar, Christopher Nolan, 10th Anniversary, Anne Hathaway, and Matthew McConaughey.

When Interstellar was re-released in the US last month, it soared to become the ninth highest-grossing IMAX film of all time, surpassing Star Wars: The Last Jedi. The film earned $4.5 million from 166 screens across the US and Canada, with demand so high that theaters rushed to increase screen availability. Tickets were resold for up to $300, and the top 10 theaters alone averaged an impressive $70,000 per screen, marking one of the highest earnings of the year.
Talking about the success of the re-release of Interstellar after 10 years, Christopher Nolan told the Associated Press, "I was just so gratified by the response. It’s really thrilling when people respond to your work at any point. But 10 years later, to have new audiences coming and experiencing it in the way that we’d originally intended it on the big IMAX screens and, in particular, on those IMAX film prints? It’s really rewarding to see that it continues to have a life.”
Set in a bleak future where Earth is being ravaged by famine and blight, the film follows a group of astronauts who travel through a wormhole near Saturn in search of a new planet for humanity. Starring Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Matt Damon, and Timothée Chalamet, the film received critical acclaim and won five Academy Awards in technical categories.
