Tharun Moorthy’s revenge drama Thudarum, featuring Mohanlal and Shobana, is moving toward a big box office feat. The Malayalam film is set to break the Rs100 crore mark in India; it will be Mohanlal’s second Rs100 crore domestic film this year after L2: Empuraan. The previous film had a lifetime gross of Rs 105 crore in the country.
Domestic Performance
As of its third Sunday, Thudarum has made Rs98.75 crores at the Indian box office on the box office, Sacnilk reported. The film has maintained a consistent stream of earnings and made Rs5 crore on Sunday, Rs4 crore on Saturday and Rs3 crore on Friday. Its steady second week run has seen it maintain collections of between Rs6 and Rs11 crore on a daily basis, with day one ending just over Rs 5 crore.
The film has performed best in Malayalam version, while the Tamil and Telugu dubbed versions made less of a contribution to the total.
Meanwhile, Thudarum has already surged past the Rs200 crore mark worldwide, after Manjummel Boys and Empuraan L2, and has become only the third Malayalam film to do so. Mohanlal thanked his fans on social media, writing in a tweet.
"Rs200 crores Thanks.. Some journeys don’t need sound.. just a camera and bunch of those who believes ”. Thudarum has entered into the hearts of crores of people from various parts of the globe setting new box office records in Kerala.
Thudarum has evolved as the top grosser malayalam movie in Kerala. The film held well at theatres on its third Sunday and evening shows were rocking with 79.11% occupancy, while afternoon shows recorded 73.83%, night shows 66.82% and morning shows 44.05%.
If this momentum continues, Thudarum might overtake Empuraan’s domestic total of Rs105 crore in the days ahead.
