Mohanlal’s security head Anu Kunjumon redefines security for women in the industry

Anu Kunjumon, 37, serves as the head of security for superstar Mohanlal, making her mark in a traditionally male-dominated profession.

For years, bouncers have been known for managing crowds at elite events, ensuring celebrity security, and maintaining order at pubs and parties—a profession long dominated by men. However, an increasing number of women, equipped with physical strength and mental resilience, are now making their mark in this field. Among them is Anu Kunjumon, breaking stereotypes in the industry.

In an interview with PTI, she expressed her long-standing desire to command respect and hold her ground.

Her journey into this field was shaped by personal struggles, as she took on the responsibility of supporting her mother and sister while striving for a life of dignity.

Anu Kunjumon began her career as a photographer, capturing moments at film promotions and celebrity events. However, an encounter with a male bouncer during an assignment made her question the absence of women in security roles. The experience fueled her determination to challenge the norm, ultimately leading her to pursue a career in the male-dominated field of security.

Anu Kunjumon has built an impressive career, managing security at a range of high-profile events, from star-studded functions to lively pub parties. According to PTI, the demand for female bouncers has been on the rise, particularly at award ceremonies, celebrity gatherings, and nightlife venues. She highlighted that women in this profession now receive equal pay as their male counterparts.

Beyond event security, Anu has also been entrusted with escorting female celebrities and business professionals. Despite the challenges of handling unpredictable crowds, she confidently asserts that she has never faced difficulties managing people, irrespective of their gender.

Meanwhile, superstar Mohanlal is currently enjoying the success of L2: Empuraan, directed by Prithviraj. The film, which is running in theatres, has garnered widespread acclaim, further amplifying the buzz around it.
