Actress Courtney Thorne-Smith has officially filed for divorce from her husband of 18 years, Roger Fishman.
According to a People report, on June 17, the Melrose Place star filed for divorce, citing "irreconcilable differences". The couple has been separated since September 2021, according to the documents.
In addition to asking the court to stop providing spousal support for both parties, Courtney, who filed without legal counsel, has asked for joint custody of their 17-year-old son, Jacob Emerson.
This marks Thorne-Smith’s second marriage. From 2000 to 2001, she was married to geneticist Andrew Conrad; however, their marriage ended and the couple shared no children. She also dated co-star Andrew Shue while she was on Melrose Place. She discussed their post-breakup working relationship on the Still the Place podcast's August 5, 2024, episode. She said that although the breakup was "shockingly not weird," they did set clear on-set rules, such as a "no tongue" rule during kissing scenes between their characters.
From July 8, 1992, to May 24, 1999, Fox broadcast the popular prime-time soap opera Melrose Place for seven seasons. The show, which focused on the lives of young adults residing in an apartment complex in West Hollywood, became a cultural phenomenon during the '90s. Thorne-Smith and Fishman married on New Year’s Day in 2007.
Courtney began her film career in 1986 with the coming-of-age drama Lucas, starring alongside Corey Haim, Charlie Sheen, and Winona Ryder. She went on to appear in several other films during the late ’80s, including Welcome to 18 (1986), Revenge of the Nerds II: Nerds in Paradise (1987), Summer School (1987), and Side Out (1990). In 1998, she starred in Chairman of the Board opposite Carrot Top, though the film was critically panned and performed poorly at the box office.
