Mawra Hocane, the Pakistani actress who won hearts with her debut in Sanam Teri Kasam (2016), recently shared an emotional moment regarding the film’s success and the praise she received from Bollywood legends like Amitabh Bachchan and Vidya Balan. The movie, directed by Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru, was re-released in theaters after nine years and unexpectedly became a massive hit, surpassing even Tumbbad to become the biggest re-release grosser in Indian cinema.
The overwhelming response from audiences and the film’s renewed popularity led to many Bollywood celebrities acknowledging its impact. Among them was Amitabh Bachchan, who congratulated the team, and Vidya Balan, who personally praised Mawra Hocane for her performance. Reflecting on this, Mawra expressed deep gratitude and excitement while talking to Mid-Day.
“Mr. Bachchan is a legend, and he saw my movie! It will always be a cherished feeling,” Mawra said, unable to contain her happiness. She further spoke about her admiration for Vidya Balan, stating, “Vidya-ji has my heart. She did women-oriented roles when no one was doing them.”

For Mawra, this recognition came at a particularly special moment in her life. “It was my wedding reception, and my husband [Ameer Gilani] told me that Vidya-ji has praised me. I was over the moon,” she shared. The actress also recalled a famous saying that resonated with her journey: “Waqt se pehle aur naseeb se zyada kuch nahi milta.” She believes this perfectly encapsulates her career trajectory and the unexpected success of Sanam Teri Kasam years after its original release.
With the film’s massive resurgence, speculation grew about the possibility of a sequel. The makers had already confirmed Sanam Teri Kasam 2, with Harshvardhan Rane set to reprise his role. Fans eagerly wondered whether Mawra would return, despite her character’s tragic end in the first installment. Addressing these questions, Mawra revealed that she had indeed been approached for the sequel but remained uncertain about her participation.
“While I have received an offer from the makers, there is another issue that may become a roadblock in my comeback to Hindi cinema,” she admitted.
