Matt Reeves confirms The Batman 2; reveals Robert Pattinson locked the script in a pouch after reading

Reeves also confirmed that Robert Pattinson will be getting into the suit again and has read the script.

During his red carpet at the Emmy Awards held on Sunday, Matt Reeves confirmed that The Batman 2's script has been finalized and the DC film will go on floors soon.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter at the Emmys, Matt said, “We’re getting ready. We’re basically entering prep. We’ll be making the movie in the spring."

He also shed light on preparing the script for The Batman 2. “It’s been a journey that is taking longer than I would’ve wanted for a lot of reasons, a lot of personal reasons, but most important reason is getting it to a place where I just felt like it was the best script we could possibly write," he added.

Reeves also confirmed that Robert Pattinson will be getting into the suit again and has read the script.

Reeves also expressed his excitement about returning to Gotham’s dark and gritty world, while also sharing the extreme measures the team behind The Batman took to keep the script a secret.

He stated, “We put (the script) into a secret pouch that literally has a lock on it with a code. (Robert Pattinson) was in New York at the time, and everything is high security.” After he read the script, the Twilight actor kept the script in the locked pouch. “We really trust Rob, because he’s the best.”

Reeves excitedly talked more about Batman's character arc in the sequel. “I was super excited. I thought that he really would [like it] because the things that it does for his character, for Batman and for Bruce, have never been done before in this way. I had a feeling that he would respond in this way, but the fact that he did was incredibly encouraging.”

Reeves reflected on the long gap since The Batman released on March 4, 2022, marking the start of a new chapter for the DC hero. The film turned into a global blockbuster, earning $772 million, and soon after, Warner Bros. and DC were reportedly keen for Reeves and co-writer Mattson Tomlin to deliver a sequel script.

Reeves worked as an executive producer and writing supervisor on HBO’s The Penguin, which has earned 24 Emmy nominations. Although Season 1 is billed as a limited series, he shared that the team is already considering the possibility of a second season.
