The nominations for the 2025 Emmy Awards were announced on Tuesday, July 16, and in a surprising and heartwarming moment, Oscar-winning director Martin Scorsese earned his first-ever acting nomination.
For his performance in the comedy The Studio on Apple TV+, the 82-year-old legend has received a nomination in the category of Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series.
Francesca Scorsese, his youngest daughter, responded heartily to Scorsese's nomination, which signalled the start of a new chapter in his storied career.
She took to Instagram Stories to celebrate the milestone, posting a picture of the nominee list with digital confetti over her father's photo, affectionately captioning it, "Our little actor."
Francesca shared a screenshot of an emotional FaceTime call with her father in another heartfelt post. The picture showed Francesca smiling proudly in the corner of the screen while Martin covered his face with his hands, clearly moved by the news. Both moviegoers and fans found great resonance in the moment.
Known for his iconic work behind the camera, Scorsese has already won two Emmys: one in 2011 for directing an episode of Boardwalk Empire, and another in 2012 for producing and directing the documentary George Harrison: Living in the Material World.

Scorsese will compete against Jon Bernthal for The Bear and four of his own Studio co-stars, Bryan Cranston, Dave Franco, Ron Howard, and Anthony Mackie, in the 2025 Emmy race.
The 2025 Emmy Awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on September 14, and Scorsese’s unexpected yet well-deserved nomination adds an exciting layer to this year’s honors.
