Alia Bhatt's starrer Jigra was released on October 10, 2024 and failed to receive the expected response from the audience despite the film featuring strong performances from the actors.
However, Jigra actor Manoj Pahwa, who is also known for his roles in Netflix thriller IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack, has recently reflected on the failure of the film. He has recently admitted that the success of a film can't be measured by applause or accolades.
During a recent interview with Screen, Manoj noted that the film industry is unpredictable, and even a great performance can't always ensure a movie's success. He also noted that he tries to stay detached from box office results but admits to feeling regret when films he rejected end up doing well.
Manoj said, “Just because a film has strong performances doesn’t mean it’ll work commercially. That’s a reality we all have to accept."
The actor also noted that some of his strongest performances remained unnoticed. He said, “I’ve acted in many films I believed in, but unfortunately, they never made it to the audience. It’s quite common in our industry."
The actor also spoke openly about having moments of hindsight, despite his calm attitude towards the outcome of his work.
He said, “There are projects you say no to for various reasons. And when they go on to do well, you feel a pang of regret. On the flip side, you also take on films that don’t turn out the way you’d hoped. Afsos hota hai ki yaar, yeh toh itna mazedar nahi bana (You do feel bad that it didn’t turn out well)."
For the unversed, Alia Bhatt's film Jigra was a box office flop, with a worldwide collection of approximately Rs 55.05 crore. The film notably marked the actress’ lowest-grossing film in a while.
Jigra also stars Vedang Raina, Vivek Gomber and Aditya Nanda in the key roles. The action thriller film follows Satya, played by Alia Bhatt, as she embarks on a mission to rescue her younger brother Ankur (Vedang Raina) after he's wrongfully imprisoned and sentenced to death in a foreign country, Hanshi Dao.
