Malayalam cinema legend Mammootty recently found himself at the center of swirling rumours about his health. Speculations began spreading online, claiming that the actor had been diagnosed with cancer. These reports triggered concern among fans, prompting close aides and friends to step forward and clarify the situation.
Rajya Sabha MP and Mammootty’s longtime friend, John Brittas, addressed the matter in a recent interview with Reporter TV. He reassured fans that while the veteran actor is undergoing treatment, it is not for a serious illness.
“Mammootty is suffering from a minor health complication and is currently receiving treatment. He is okay, and I just had a phone conversation with him,” said Brittas, putting to rest the exaggerated concerns.
He further shared that although their friendship spans decades, they’ve rarely delved into personal matters. “Even though we have been friends for quite a long time, we were never the kind of people who talked much about our personal lives. However, in recent days, we have been sharing such details as well,” he added, indicating that Mammootty himself had opened up to him about his health condition. (Translated from Malayalam)
Mammootty’s team also responded promptly to the unfounded cancer reports. In an official statement, they had earlier said, “It is fake news. He is on vacation because he is fasting for Ramzan. He is on a break from his shoot schedule as well because of that. In fact, after the break, he will go back to shooting for Mahesh Narayanan’s film with Mohanlal.”
Meanwhile, on the work front, Mammootty was last seen in Bazooka, an action thriller directed by Deeno Dennis. Despite high expectations, the film received a lukewarm response and underperformed at the box office following its release on April 10, 2025.

However, the movie is set to premiere on ZEE5, giving it a second chance to connect with audiences.
The veteran actor has an exciting lineup ahead. He will soon appear in Kalamkaval, a crime drama featuring Vinayakan. Additionally, he is gearing up for a major project with director Mahesh Narayanan, tentatively titled MMMN (Patriot). This action thriller includes a star-studded cast with Mohanlal, Fahadh Faasil, Kunchacko Boban, Nayanthara, and Darshana Rajendran.
For now, fans can breathe easy knowing their beloved star is doing well and is expected to return to work soon.
