Priyanka Chopra’s mother, Dr Madhu Chopra, recently shared insights about the actress’s early struggles in Bollywood and how she ensured her daughter's safety in the industry. In an interview with Pinkvilla, she revealed that she closely monitored Priyanka’s work environment, given that they were outsiders in the industry.
"In the beginning days of her career, I used to sit on sets like a daayan (witch),” Madhu Chopra said. “She was very young and came from a very protective environment. We had heard that Bollywood wasn’t always a safe space, and she is our only daughter, so we didn’t want to take any chances.”
Madhu Chopra recalled an incident where Priyanka was asked to attend a private narration with a director who insisted that her mother step out. However, the actress immediately refused the project.
"She walked out from there and said, ‘If you cannot narrate the script in front of my mother, do you think I will do the film? No, I won’t.’ She was always very decisive, never feared losing a film, and always had a plan B," Madhu Chopra stated.
Priyanka’s mother also emphasised the importance of self-respect, sharing a life lesson she instilled in her daughter.

"I always told her that if you behave like a chawanni (25 cents), people will see you like that. But if you make yourself a rupee, people will value you and not treat you like trash," she said.
On the professional front, Priyanka Chopra is gearing up for her Hollywood films Heads of State and The Bluff. She has also collaborated with SS Rajamouli for his next big film alongside Mahesh Babu.
