Lucky Ali on three marraige and five children: 'None of my marriages succeeded, but my relationships remain intact'

Lucky Ali has always been seen as a wanderer in spirit, the man who drifted in and out of the industry, made music that felt like memory itself, and then stepped away without bitterness. Recently, he spoke candidly about his personal life, particularly his three marriages and his role as a father to five children. His reflections carry the same quiet honesty that has long defined his songs.

In an interview with Navbharat Times, Lucky Ali said he does not believe that a life must begin and end with the same partner. “It’s not essential that you begin and conclude life with the same partner. I married three times, each in a different nation, and every experience was distinct. None of my marriages succeeded, but all my relationships remain intact. We may not live together, but we are always there for one another.” There is no regret in his voice, only acceptance of the way his life unfolded.

Lucky’s first marriage was to Meaghan Jane McCleary, an Indo-British model. The two met when he was still shaping his identity as an artist. They had two children together. His second marriage was to Inaya, a Persian woman, with whom he also had two children. Later, in 2010, he married Kate Elizabeth Hallam, a British model and former beauty queen. Their son was born in the same year. However, the couple separated in 2017.

Each relationship, he explained, held its own place in his growth. Rather than treating the end of a marriage as a failure, he views it as the closing of a chapter. What matters to him is that the emotional connection did not break. Lucky said that he shares a respectful and warm bond with his former partners, and their well-being remains important to him.

When asked about fatherhood, he described his approach simply: love, presence, and example. “The only genuine approach to parenting is through love, children learn from observing their parents.” He sees parenting not as guidance through words, but as something reflected in daily life, the tone of conversations, the patience of responses, the honesty of action. His children, spread across countries and cultures, remain central to him. He calls himself “a devoted and responsible father.”

Lucky also spoke about his relationship with the entertainment industry. Contrary to speculation, he said the environment was not the primary reason he became distant. “While I faced misbehavior from some in the industry, it wasn’t the toxicity that pushed me away it was the dullness.” After the death of his father, legendary comedian and actor Mehmood, something shifted in him. The world that once felt vibrant grew quiet. Music became his refuge. “Following my father’s passing, I felt a sense of disconnection. I yearned to express myself musically, O Sanam emerged from that quest for liberation.”
