Lord of the Rings star Elijah Wood reveals he married Mette-Marie Kongsved on New Year’s eve in Sweden

Elijah Wood weds Mette-Marie Kongsved

Elijah Wood, best known for his iconic role in The Lord of the Rings, is now officially married.

The actor recently revealed that he married his long-time partner, Danish producer Mette-Marie Kongsved, on New Year's Eve in Sweden. The couple, who have collaborated professionally, most recently worked together on the 2024 adventure comedy-drama Bookworm, and Wood has been openly celebrating their union.

In an appearance on the Inside of You podcast with Michael Rosenbaum, Wood affectionately referred to Kongsved as his “wife,” expressing his deep gratitude for his family. “I’m beyond grateful for my family, my kids and my wife. Like, they are such an extension of me,” he said, showing just how much they mean to him.

Kongsved, a well-known producer, is credited for her work on the 2017 neo-noir comedy I Don’t Feel at Home in This World Anymore, which went on to win the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival in the US dramatic competition category. Other notable films she has produced include Get Duked! (2019), Come to Daddy (2019), and Nine Days (2020). She first met Wood on the set of I Don’t Feel at Home in This World Anymore, where Wood played a prominent role.

Their relationship didn’t attract attention immediately, but by 2018, romance rumours began circulating after they were spotted holding hands in Pasadena, Los Angeles. In 2019, they made their relationship public by attending the Rodarte FW19 fashion show together. It wasn’t long after that the pair were said to be engaged, and they later welcomed their first child, son Evan. Their daughter was born in 2022.

Before her relationship with Wood, Kongsved was married to director, writer, and producer Evan Louis Katz from 2011 to 2017, although they had separated in 2016. The couple had worked together on the 2013 film Cheap Thrills, where Kongsved served as music supervisor and Katz as director. The film won the Midnighter Audience award at the South by Southwest film festival. Katz has since worked as co-executive producer for several episodes of The Haunting of Bly Manor and directed one of the instalments.
