Squid Game actor Heo Sung Tae has opened up about one of the most emotionally taxing moments of his career. He shared a behind-the-scenes incident involving an explicit scene in Squid Game that unexpectedly ended in tears and left him feeling unfairly judged on set.
Heo, who rose to fame for his chilling portrayal of gangster Jang Deok Su in Netflix’s Squid Game, recently appeared on the YouTube show Nobacktak to promote his new film, The Informant. During the conversation, the actor hesitated before sharing that the movie contains a bed scene, a surprising revelation considering he had publicly promised his wife that he would no longer film intimate scenes.
When MC Tak Jae Hoon asked how his wife reacted, Heo explained that she was informed beforehand and didn’t express strong emotions afterward, as she was satisfied with how the film ultimately turned out. Her calm response, however, contrasted sharply with the emotional intensity of a past experience Heo revealed next.
The actor went on to describe a dramatic and deeply awkward moment from the filming of Squid Game. In the series, Heo performed an explicit scene with co-star Kim Joo Ryoung. Because the sequence involved partial nudity, the production team minimised the number of crew members on set and ensured his private areas were covered with protective gear. Everything proceeded smoothly, until the cameras stopped rolling.
Heo recalled the moment with humour but also lingering embarrassment, saying, “It felt like I had become a pervert out of nowhere. People who were unaware of the situation misunderstood and went, ‘What did Sung Tae-sunbaenim do to her?” The misunderstanding left him rattled, especially as some staff members began looking at him suspiciously before the situation was clarified.
