Rumours about the alleged death of disgraced former EXO member Kris Wu (Wu Yifan), who is currently serving a 13-year prison sentence in China for sexual assault, have taken the internet by storm.
Over the past few days, social media has been flooded with unverified reports claiming that the 35-year-old former idol has died while in prison, leaving fans and the global entertainment community stunned.
The speculation began when Taiwanese outlet Sanli News published a report suggesting that Wu had passed away, a story soon picked up by MK Sports and other online platforms.
Within hours, the rumours spread across Chinese social media, sparking widespread confusion and concern. Despite the viral frenzy, there has been no official confirmation from Chinese authorities or Wu’s representatives, and the reports remain unverified.
As per Times of India, adding fuel to the fire, a man claiming to be Wu’s former prison mate shared disturbing details about what he alleged happened behind bars.

According to him, prison guards were quietly discussing Kris’s sudden death, claiming he had been gang-raped by other inmates and later murdered after refusing to meet their demands. Another unconfirmed account claimed that the singer died following a hunger strike.
While these testimonies have not been substantiated, they’ve reignited debate about prison conditions in China and the ongoing mystery surrounding Wu’s imprisonment.
Many fans have called for official clarification to put an end to the increasingly grim speculation.
This is not the first time such rumours have surfaced. Earlier this year, speculation about Kris Wu’s fate spread after the Canadian government criticised the execution of four Canadian nationals in China, with unconfirmed reports falsely suggesting that Wu was among them.
Once again, no official statement followed, leaving questions lingering.
Kris Wu was once one of Asia’s biggest stars — debuting with EXO in 2012 before leaving the group in 2014 and launching a successful career in China as a singer and actor.
However, his fall from grace was swift and public. In 2021, Wu was convicted of raping multiple minors, a case that shocked fans across the globe and effectively ended his career.
