Singer, songwriter and music producer Park Jin-young has stepped down from his role as an in-house director at JYP Entertainment. The company confirmed the development through an official statement on March 10.
The agency said, "Park Jin-young will not go through the process of reappointment as an inside director at the general shareholders' meeting on March 26."
Following this decision, Park Jin-young plans to focus more on his creative work as an artist. He also wants to dedicate time to mentoring younger performers and exploring new projects in the K-Pop industry.
Park Jin-young has become one of the most influential figures in Korean pop music after his debut in 1994. Over the years, he built a reputation as a composer, producer, and performer, helping shape the global popularity of K-Pop.
He founded JYP Entertainment in 1997, turning it into one of the most successful entertainment companies in South Korea. Under his leadership, the agency produced several globally recognized artists and groups, including 2PM, DAY6, GOT7, ITZY, NMIXX, Stray Kids, TWICE, and Wonder Girls, among others.
Besides his work in music production, Park Jin-young has played an active role in promoting Korean culture worldwide. In September 2025, he was appointed co-chair of South Korea’s Presidential Committee on Cultural Exchange. He shares this role with Choi Hwi-young, the country’s Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
In November 2025, Park Jin-young released his digital single Happy Hour in collaboration with singer Kwon Jin-ah.
According to a report by The Korea Times, Presidential Chief of Staff Kang Hoon-sik had spoken about Park’s appointment to the cultural committee earlier, saying, "Park is one of Korea's leading singers and has worked to globalize K-Pop. He will help create a Korea where people around the world can better enjoy our culture, while we also embrace diverse foreign cultures."
More recently, in March 2026, Park Jin-young was also included in Billboard’s 2026 Global Power Players list, which recognises influential music industry figures working outside the United States.
