Heo Seong Jeong reveals his secret fight with brain cancer

Known for his part in the group CLASSMATE, singer Heo Seong Jeong has shared a very personal message that has inspired and heartbroken fans.

Heo, who has been fighting brain cancer quietly for the past four years, opened up about his experience, which was one of suffering, resiliency, and unwavering hope.

What makes his story even more moving is that it began with a selfless act of love. In December, four years ago, Heo donated a kidney to his biological mother, who was gravely ill. Just a month later, he received devastating news: he had malignant glioma, a rare and aggressive form of brain cancer.

“I’d like to share something a bit heavy today,” he wrote. “Four years ago, in December, I donated a kidney to my biological mother, who was very ill at the time. A month later, in January, I was diagnosed with malignant glioma—a type of brain cancer.”

The tumour was caught early, and Heo underwent a major surgery—a craniotomy—to remove it. But its location between areas of the brain that control speech and movement meant the aftermath was brutal.

He struggled to even carry out simple everyday tasks and suffered from epilepsy, memory loss, and stuttering. It seemed like an impossible dream to sing once more.

“It took an incredible amount of time and effort to recover enough to return to daily life, let alone to sing again,” he admitted. “But thanks to the support and encouragement from so many people, I managed to regain my health and continued with regular follow-up checkups.”

But just as he began finding his footing again, another health scare hit. Heo began losing weight rapidly, struggling with digestion and shortness of breath. Doctors now suspect colon cancer, and he is undergoing further tests.

“After visiting the hospital, I was informed by my doctor that there is a possibility of colon cancer… Still, I believe that no matter what the detailed test results show, I’ll overcome it. I’ll return with a smile on my face. Thank you.”
