Korean comedian Jeong Se-hyeop dies at 41

Popular Korean comedian Jeong Se-hyeop, known for his iconic Chow Chow character on KBS2’s Gag Concert, passed away on October 6 at the age of 41. Despite overcoming leukemia in 2022 and making a successful comeback, the cause of his death is presumed to be a heart attack.

Popular comedian Jeong Se-hyeop, who was known for his puppy character Cow Chow, passed away on October 6. He was 41.

The KBS2 ‘Gag Concert’ production team announced the news of Jeong Se-hyeop’s death through its official Instagram account on October 7.

Sharing the picture of the late comedian, the team penned in the caption, “We express deep condolences over the sad news of the late comedian Jeong Se-hyeop. We pray for his eternal peace.”

 


According to Yonhap News, an official from the Korea Broadcasting Comedian Association said, "The cause of death is not clear, but it is not related to leukemia, and a heart attack is presumed to be the cause."

Jeong was diagnosed with leukaemia in 2015.

He received a bone marrow transplant and was deemed cured in 2022, despite the fact that his survival rate was only 10% at the time. Jeong Se-hyeop revealed in 2022 on his YouTube channel that he was completely cured with a bone marrow transplant after battling leukaemia for five years.

Last year, he made a comeback to the Gag Concert.

Jeong’s funeral is scheduled to be held at Hwaseong Hambaeksan Funeral Hall. The funeral ceremony will take place at 7:40 a.m. on October 9 at the burial site, Hambaeksan Memorial Park.

Jeong Se-hyeop was last seen in the recording of KBS's "Gag Concert" until last week. Additionally, he continued his broadcasting activities by attending the late Jeon Yu-seong's presidency last month.

For the unversed, Jeong Se-hyeop made his debut as a 10th-generation SBS public recruitment comedian in 2008. He gained recognition through open programs such as People Searching for Laughter and Gag Tonight.

He hit stardom for his performance in a Chow Chow costume and popularised the catchphrase Chaoyao Chaoyao in People Searching for Laughter.
