Korean actor Jun Ji Hyun, known for her roles in Tempest, Kingdom, Assassination and others, has recently quit Lee Byung Hun’s upcoming drama ‘Koreans.’
According to OSEN, the actor’s agency Ieum Hashtag (also known as Pitch Company) announced on November 4 that she is not moving forward with the project.
The agency stated, “Koreans was one of several projects under consideration, but we have decided not to move forward with it.”
Lee Byung Hun has been confirmed as the lead in ‘Koreans,’ a Korean adaptation of the popular FX spy series The Americans. The series will be directed by Ahn Gil Ho, who for Stranger and The Glory.
Despite being offered the role of Lee's wife, Jun Ji Hyun eventually quit the project, citing scheduling conflicts.
Previously, Jun Ji-hyun’s agency shared, “It is true that Jun Ji-hyun received an offer from the production team of ‘Koreans’. However, her participation has not been confirmed. Jun Ji-hyun’s next project after ‘Gunche’ has not been finalized. ‘Koreans’ is still under review alongside other proposed projects.”
The Korean adaptation is speculated to garner attention by placing its story against the backdrop of the military dictatorship era. Meanwhile, the original series portrayed the Cold War era of the 1980s.

After giving it some thought, Jun Ji-hyun ultimately chose not to join the ‘Koreans.’ She is now reviewing an offer to co-star with actor Ji Chang-wook in the upcoming drama Human X Gumiho.
Jun Ji Hyun was most recently featured in Disney+’s Polaris, which was released in September. She will next appear in Yeon Sang Ho’s upcoming project The Herd, alongside Koo Kyo Hwan, Ji Chang Wook, Shin Hyun Been, Kim Shin Rok, and Go Soo.
