Netflix’s KPop Demon Hunters continues to dominate all the streaming charts and break a new record daily. The animated musical has become a new internet sensation, creating a buzz among the global audience.
The widespread popularity has left several fans demanding a live-action version of KPop Demon Hunters, and creator Maggie Kang has some insights on the same.
In a recent interview with the BBC, the creator has admitted that she does not want to see KPop Demon Hunters getting the live-action treatment in the future.
Maggie Kang said, “There’s so many elements of the tone and the comedy that are so suited for animation. It’s really hard to imagine these characters in a live-action world. It would feel too grounded. So totally it wouldn’t work for me.”
However, Chris Appelhans, Kang’s co-director agreed with her and noted that the record-breaking Netflix animated movie should not be turned into a live-action movie.
Chris shared, “One of the great things about animation is that you make these composites of impossibly great attributes. Rumi can be this goofy comedian and then singing and doing a spinning back-kick a second later and then free-falling through the sky.”
Maggie Kang created the KPop Demon Hunters and both co-wrote and co-directed the movie.
KPop Demon Hunters revolves around a hugely popular K-pop girl group named Huntr/x, the three members of which are also secret demon warriors. The women battle a rival boy band, the Saja Boys, who are secretly demons.

The Netflix film premiered this year in June and has instantly become a cultural phenomenon and the most-watched movie on Netflix ever.
The soundtrack to the movie became the first soundtrack album to have four songs in the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100, and it also topped the Billboard charts. "Golden," the lead single, has been at the top of the charts for eight weeks and counting.
