Kim Soo Hyun's agency GOLDMEDALIST struggles financially amid backlash and dating scandal

Kim Soo Hyun, a prominent South Korean actor, is currently embroiled in a multifaceted controversy that has significantly impacted both his personal reputation and the financial stability of his agency, GOLDMEDALIST.

Dating Allegations and Brand Partnerships

The turmoil began with allegations suggesting that Kim Soo Hyun had been romantically involved with the late actress Kim Sae Ron when she was underage.

These claims were fueled by a YouTube exposé from the Garosero Research Institute, which included personal photos and messages purportedly supporting the allegations. In response, Kim Soo Hyun held a press conference on March 31, 2025, where he tearfully denied dating Kim Sae Ron during her minor years, stating, "I did not date the deceased when she was a minor."
Following these allegations, several brands, including Prada and Dinto, terminated their partnerships with Kim Soo Hyun, citing concerns over the controversy.
Financial Struggles of GOLDMEDALIST

Amidst the public uproar, GOLDMEDALIST has reportedly faced severe financial challenges. Industry sources indicate that the agency's funds have been significantly depleted, leading to measures such as suspending contracts with external service providers, including cleaning staff. An M&A expert noted, "GOLDMEDALIST used to maintain a surplus of around 2 to 3 billion KRW... but that’s no longer the case."

Furthermore, reports suggest that GOLDMEDALIST is actively seeking external investments to stabilize its financial situation. A financial industry source revealed, "The company reportedly needed to secure about 6 billion KRW before the press conference."

Legal Actions and Ongoing Controversy

In an attempt to address the allegations and mitigate the damage, Kim Soo Hyun has filed a lawsuit seeking damages of 12 billion KRW against Kim Sae Ron's family and the Garosero Research Institute. The lawsuit alleges defamation and seeks to hold responsible those spreading false information regarding his relationship with Kim Sae Ron.

The situation remains fluid, with ongoing legal proceedings and continued scrutiny from the public and media. The outcomes of these developments will likely have lasting implications for Kim Soo Hyun's career and the future of GOLDMEDALIST.
