Much to the delight of his fans, actor Kiccha Sudeep has formally announced his 47th film, which is tentatively titled K47.
Filming for the fast-paced action thriller began in Chennai on July 7 and is being directed by Vijay Kartikeyan, who is best known for his work on Max.
K47, which is supported by the well-known Tamil production company Sathya Jyothi Films, plans to be released on Christmas Day, December 25, 2025.
The announcement caught many by surprise, particularly as Kiccha Sudeep is currently immersed in shooting Billa Ranga Baasha, a fantasy epic directed by Anup Bhandari.
As per India Today, speaking about the unexpected new project, Kiccha remarked, “Billa Ranga Baasha is a vast undertaking with intricate world-building. It will take time. In the meantime, I felt it was important to deliver a film this year. We’re working hard to ensure K47 is completed swiftly. A December 25 release may sound ambitious, but we’re giving it our all. With the current unpredictability in Kannada cinema, I feel a sense of responsibility to offer something fresh this year.”
K47 marks the actor’s second collaboration with Kartikeyan, though Sudeep was quick to dispel rumours suggesting that the film is a sequel to Max. “There’s always temptation to build a franchise after a successful film, but K47 stands alone. It’s a distinct narrative with a different tone and character. We didn’t want to manufacture continuity just for the sake of it,” he clarified.
Addressing earlier reports that acclaimed filmmaker Cheran was initially attached to direct, Sudeep confirmed preliminary discussions but explained why it didn’t work out. “Cheran is immensely talented, and I have great respect for his storytelling. We explored a collaboration, but the story didn’t align with my current vision or with the pulse of the industry right now. A film like My Autograph worked wonderfully then, but today’s landscape demands something different.”
Music for K47 will be composed by Ajaneesh Loknath. The film also marks veteran producer TG Thyagarajan’s return to Kannada cinema after nearly four decades, his last being the 1986 classic Sathya Jyothi starring Dr Vishnuvardhan. “Sudeep is a remarkable talent, and we’re proud to re-enter the Kannada industry with K47,” Thyagarajan said, adding that previous attempts to collaborate with legends like Shivarajkumar and Puneeth Rajkumar had unfortunately not materialised.

Sudeep also took a moment to address criticism surrounding his involvement with non-Kannada banners. “It’s not about distancing from Kannada producers. The truth is, I’m open to any banner that brings a compelling story. Rather than questioning my choices, perhaps we should ask why local production houses aren’t coming forward with strong scripts.”
With his ongoing role in Bigg Boss Kannada, the massive scale of Billa Ranga Baasha, and now the addition of K47, Sudeep’s schedule is nothing short of packed. But if his track record is anything to go by, fans are in for a thrilling ride.
