Much anticipated action-thriller Shadow Force is set to release in Indian theatres on May 9, announced PVR.
Shadow Force, starring Kerry Washington and Omar Sy, is a gripping and emotionally charged story centered on love, sacrifice, and survival. The film is directed and co-written by Joe Carnahan, with Leon Chills also contributing to the screenplay.
Together, they craft a tense narrative about the extraordinary lengths two highly skilled assassins are willing to go to in order to protect the family they have fought so hard to build.
Washington and Sy portray Kyrah and Issac Sarr, once elite operatives within a clandestine international assassins’ organization known as “Shadow Force.” After breaking the unit’s strict code by falling in love and abandoning their deadly profession to build a life together, they become prime targets.
Their former colleagues place a staggering $25 million bounty on their heads, forcing the couple to flee for their lives. In a desperate bid to shield their family from danger, Kyrah and Issac make the painful decision to split up: Kyrah takes the offensive, hunting down threats before they can strike, while Issac goes into hiding with their newborn son. However, as the peril intensifies and enemies close in, the fractured family must reunite, preparing for one final battle to secure their future.
Speaking about her character, Kerry Washington said, “I’ve done a lot of material around the value of Black life and the vulnerability of Black parenting and Black motherhood in particular,” she says. “[So] I thought, oh, how wonderful that this film is about protecting and saving a Black boy.”
Washington’s last action film had been Mr. and Mrs. Smith in 2005, an experience she recalled fondly, saying she had always wanted to return to the genre if the right moment and project came along. Yet, it wasn’t just the thrill of intense action scenes that drew her to this new role — it was the story’s meaningful themes that resonated with her artistic mission.
Adding to the film’s impressive lineup are Mark Strong, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Cliff Smith, and Jahleel Kamara.
