The 17th season of Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) witnessed its first crorepati of the year, with Aditya Kumar from Uttarakhand scripting history on the hot seat. The much-anticipated episode, aired on Thursday, showcased Aditya’s sharp intellect, calm presence, and strategic play, which earned him not only Rs 1 crore but also accolades from host Amitabh Bachchan and millions of viewers across the country.
Aditya’s journey to the jackpot question was marked by confidence and composure.
His first big milestone came with the Rs 50 lakh question, which asked: “On which planet of the solar system is a crater named after the Russian artist Nicholas Roerich, father-in-law of Devika Rani?” Without using a lifeline, Aditya selected Mercury as the answer, which turned out to be correct. This bold move cemented his place as a strong contender.
The defining moment of his game, however, was the Rs 1 crore question: “Which of these elements is named after the scientist who separated the plutonium element used in the first atomic bomb?” The options were Seaborgium, Mendelevium, Rutherfordium, and Bohrium. Aditya smartly deployed the 50-50 lifeline, narrowing the choices to Seaborgium and Bohrium. After a moment of deliberation, he chose Seaborgium—a decision that turned him into the season’s first crorepati. Along with the cash prize, Aditya also drove home a brand-new Maruti Suzuki Brezza, adding to his celebrations.

But the toughest challenge was yet to come. For the ultimate Rs 7 crore jackpot, Aditya faced this question: “Which Japanese artist came to India in the 1930s and painted a famous series depicting the Taj Mahal, Sanchi Stupa, and Ellora Caves?” The options included Hiroshi Sugimoto, Hiroshi Senju, Hiroshi Yoshida, and Hiroshi Nakajima. Unfortunately, with no lifelines left, Aditya found himself uncertain. Recognizing the risk, he made the wise decision to walk away with Rs 1 crore rather than gamble on the final question. The correct answer was Hiroshi Yoshida, a celebrated Japanese artist renowned for his evocative prints of Indian monuments.
Aditya Kumar’s journey on KBC 17 will be remembered not just for his knowledge but for his remarkable composure and decision-making under pressure. While he didn’t attempt the Rs 7 crore question, his choice to walk away was a display of prudence. As the first crorepati of the season, Aditya’s historic run has already become one of the most talked-about highlights of KBC 17.
