On Monday, April 14, 2025, pop star Katy Perry went to space with five other women on a Blue Origin rocket. They took off from West Texas at 9:31 a.m. ET and flew to the edge of space. The trip lasted about 11 minutes. During the flight, the crew felt weightless for a short time before returning safely to Earth. The space company Blue Origin, started by billionaire Jeff Bezos, shared the journey in a live video.
This flight was special because it was the first all-female spaceflight in over 60 years. The last time only women went to space was in 1963 when Soviet cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova became the first woman in space.
Along with Katy Perry, the crew included Lauren Sanchez (Jeff Bezos’ fiancée), CBS host Gayle King, former NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, scientist Amanda Nguyen, and film producer Kerianne Flynn.
Gayle King shared a touching moment from the flight. She said that after they floated in zero gravity and came back to their seats, Katy Perry sang the famous song “What a Wonderful World” by Louis Armstrong. Katy also brought a daisy flower with her into space. She said the flower reminded her of her daughter, Daisy.
Katy explained that daisies are simple flowers, but they can grow in any condition. She said they are strong and full of life, just like her daughter and the women on the flight.
This flight is a big success for Blue Origin’s New Shepard rocket. The rocket is designed for space tourism, where people can visit space for a short time. This trip shows that space travel is becoming more open to different people — including women from different fields like music, science, and media.
The all-female flight is a powerful symbol of progress and inspiration for future generations.
