Justin Trudeau and Katy Perry make first official appearance, meet former Japanese PM Fumio Kishida for lunch in Tokyo

Justin Trudeau and Katy Perry turned a casual meal into a moment under the spotlight when the couple joined Fumio Kishida and his wife, Yuko, for lunch in Tokyo this week.

On December 4, Kishida shared a photo on social media showing the four standing before a Christmas tree. He wrote in Japanese, "Former Canadian Prime Minister @JustinTrudeau visited Japan with his partner and joined my wife and me for lunch. During his time as prime minister, we met multiple times as fellow leaders, and when I visited Canada, we worked together to strengthen bilateral relations, including formulating the 'Japan-Canada Action Plan,' sweating it out side by side," Kishida, 68, continued. "I am delighted that we continue to maintain this friendship in this way."

Sharing a picture from their meeting on X (formerly Twitter), Trudeau wrote, "Great to see you @kishida230. Katy and I were so glad to have the chance to sit down with you and Yuko. Kishida used the post to reflect on the bond he and Trudeau forged during their time as world leaders, citing collaborations such as the Japan‑Canada Action Plan and diplomatic engagements during the G7 Hiroshima Summit. In his message, he added that he’s “delighted that we continue to maintain this friendship in this way.”

Justin Trudeau and Katy Perry have steadily made their relationship public since being spotted on a dinner date in Montreal in July. Trudeau also attended Perry’s sold-out Lifetimes tour in Canada, highlighting their growing bond.
