Kareena Kapoor made headlines at the WAVES 2025 Summit, not just for her charisma but for some delightful anecdotes and sharp takes on the current Bollywood-Hollywood trend. During a candid conversation with Karan Johar for the session Cinema: The Soft Power, Kareena recounted a surprising encounter with one of Hollywood’s greatest filmmakers—Steven Spielberg.
“I was in a restaurant and Steven Spielberg came up to me and asked, ‘Are you the same girl who is in that Indian film where 3 students study together, 3 Idiots?’” Kareena shared with her signature sass. “I said yes, I am the same girl. He told me he loved the film.”
The audience was visibly amazed at this revelation, and it only reaffirmed the global impact of Indian cinema. Kareena, who played the role of Pia in the cult classic ‘3 Idiots’, beamed with pride as she narrated the moment.
Adding to the buzz, she also weighed in on the current trend of Indian actors pursuing Hollywood opportunities. With her unapologetic charm, she said, “Main toh yahi hu. I believe in acting in India and doing my own thing. Bada maja aata hai hamare Hindi gaano par dance karna. Bada maja aata hai Hindi dialogues bolna.”
This statement earned thunderous applause from the audience, especially when she emphasized, “Har ladki aur aurat ko hamesha kehna chaiye ‘main apni favourite hu’.” Recreating her iconic dialogue from Jab We Met, she sent waves of nostalgia and empowerment across the hall.
Her reaction to the narrative that “sab log bas Hollywood pakad pakad ke jaa rahe hain” was equally iconic and laced with wit, proving yet again why she’s called the queen of sass.
