The much anticipated Dhadak 2 is finally scheduled to hit theatres on August 1st, following numerous delays and artistic changes.
The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) was commended for its understanding and sensitivity by producer Karan Johar, who also discussed the reasons for the delay in the film's trailer launch celebration.
Karan claims that although the lengthy wait was inevitable, the CBFC was crucial and considerate during the process. He emphasised that the board understood the film's central theme, which is about two lovers whose relationship is ruined by caste differences.
“It took us time to present the film to audiences, but the censor board demonstrated true empathy and insight into our vision,” he noted, adding that both the filmmakers and the board were mindful of respecting the story’s sensitivity.
Karan elaborated on the theme and his unwavering commitment to creative freedom: “I’ve never allowed the fear of backlash to hamper my artistic expression. Our film features a line that goes, ‘When you have a choice, stand up for it’—and storytelling through cinema is the most powerful way to drive that message home.”
On the delays, he remarked: “Good art cannot be rushed. These processes exist for a reason, and we honoured them. Good things require time, and this one is no different.”
Karan expressed confidence in the final product, stating that Dhadak 2 reflects the realities of contemporary society and prompts viewers to pause and reflect. He added, “This isn’t just a problem in rural India—it’s a widespread social dynamic. People everywhere need to have this conversation.”
