Filmmaker Karan Johar is known for launching star kids with his films. He has also been blamed for destroying the careers of some of the rising actors. However, Karan seemed to have had enough of the accusations and has recently responded to rumors.
During a recent podcast episode with Raj Shamani, Karan Johar has addressed the accusations and revealed that people often insult him instead of appreciating his contribution.
The filmmaker said, “People say iske iska career destroy kiya. Maine kisi ka kuch nahi kiya. Maine bas aapna kaam kiya (People say that I have destroyed careers of many. I have not done anything like that. I just did my job).”
Karan elaborated, “This is a belief. Negativity travels, positivity doesn’t. Fashion sa hogaya hai burai karne ka (It has become a trend to badmouth people). Love me, hate me, but don't be indifferent to me. You talk so much about it, and that means I matter.”
He further emphasised that Adarsh Gourav, who was last seen in Superboys of Malegaon, now receives praise for his performance, but no one remembers that My Name Is Khan was the actor’s debut film.
Karan Johar noted that he has worked with almost all actors in the industry and could share details of them and other talent who made their debut with his films. He also claimed that several outsiders, who are thriving today, have also made their debut with his films, and he encouraged them to pursue their passion.
Karan continued, “I never get credit for this… Why aren’t people talking about Lakshya Lalwani or Raghav Juyal, who are saying Kill turned around things for them? Why aren't you crediting me for that? If I launch one actor who will be an outsider, no one will talk about that. But they will be covering and mention the so-called ‘nepo kids’. I have a whole list..”
He further revealed that he has launched 25 directors and almost 50 actors, and he didn’t get credit for them, adding, “But why should I give the list to someone? If I have launched 20 outsider directors, they’re meant to be the captains of the ship, then why are you only focusing on the stars.”
Karan also emphasised that a film's success isn't solely due to the actor, but rather a collective effort of the entire team. He believes acknowledging the contributions of the cast and crew is essential, rather than attributing success to just one person.
